Simple Tip May Help Curb Phone Addiction

We're obsessed, we are obsessed, with these Average American taps, clicks, or swipes their phone 2,600 times a day

We're addicted to our phones, we're addicted to our tablets, but could the key to curbing your phone addiction be going gray? An ex-Google employee suggests simply changing your phone display to gray scale so it can help you to fight the urge to constantly check it And it's pretty easy to do You just go to your settings, you go to general, you go into accessibility, display accommodations, turn on the color filters, and boom, you got gray scale And so, everything that was super bright, colorful, tantalizing turns gray Right, and this make a lot of sense to me because when you think about why gambling and casinos are so addictive, it's because it's got all these bright colors and they're on a variable interval reward schedule, which means you don't know when you're gonna be rewarded when you put those moneys in those slot machines

You don't know when you're gonna actually win It's the same thing with checking your phone So, if you're goin' through your camera display and sharing photos, yeah, you can turn the gray scale off, but if day to day, if you just want to have a little less draw to your phone, this gray scale makes sense because it's just not going to be quite as alluring It's still gonna be there for you if you gotta check your mail, your text messages, your Twitter feed, but it's not going to constantly be blaring out these bright red colors and oh my gosh, what is that I see? Getting you to press something, and I think that's really important, and it could probably be supplemented with certain other structures you could put in like I'm just gonna take a two-hour phone break See how hard that is

This doesn't sound like a long time, but the average time if we're starting to click through two, 3,000 times a day I mean, two hours, if you can just stay away from your phone just a couple of hours at a time Isn't that a great idea? I mean, you recommend that, don't you? We all need a break from all that constant input, like just give it a break
