What to Consider When Choosing an Addiction Treatment Center

When families are doing intervention, they wanna know what to look for in a treatment center And they focus a lot of their energy on what it'll do for their loved one, and rightfully so, but I'm here to tell you that the majority of treatment centers are not reinventing the wheel

Some are better than others Some do some extra things, but nobody's reinventing the wheel The treatment centers that we work with we have a relationship with and we call them intervention friendly If a family chooses a treatment center that we don't have a relationship with, and there's an issue at the center with their loved one, we can't help follow through with our aftercare support And the other part of that is the length of stay

It takes at least 60 days to start getting this You know the first couple of weeks, you're detoxing Yes, detox can only be three to seven days but it takes a good 30 days to come out of that fog and that haze and that anger and that resentment and that fear before you start absorbing things And when you go with a short-term center, I actually learned this in graduate school from a couple of professors, the number one time that an addict relapses on opioids and overdoses and sometimes dies is when they go to the wrong treatment center They go too close to home

They go for 30 days They haven't done enough work They haven't uncovered why they were using They have not done their trauma therapy and all we have done is lower their tolerance It's all about picking a facility that's long-term and that is intervention friendly that allows us to continue support
